The Lead Engineer will provide technical leadership, delivery governance, and operational accountability for the team supporting products in production. This role connects product stakeholders, engineering, operations, and leadership to improve delivery quality, production stability, incident response, and stakeholder alignment. The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, people leadership, and operational discipline to ensure engineering activities align with product priorities and business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture discussions, solution reviews, and technical decision-making for production systems.
- Establish engineering standards, quality gates, and development best practices to improve deployment and production readiness.
- Remove technical blockers and enforce Definition of Ready, Definition of Done, and release-readiness criteria.
- Improve sprint predictability, capacity planning, backlog readiness, and Azure DevOps (ADO) hygiene.
- Ensure risks, dependencies, and retrospective actions are assigned and tracked through closure.
- Lead production support, incident triage, escalation management, and root-cause analysis.
- Establish support models, escalation paths, SLAs, and operational metrics for KTLO activities.
- Improve visibility into system health, service performance, support trends, and recurring issues.
- Balance KTLO responsibilities with feature delivery, technical debt reduction, and platform improvements.
- Partner with Microsoft Engineering Owners, Product Owners, TPMs, and engineers to clarify priorities, scope, dependencies, and ownership.
- Provide consistent updates on delivery status, risks, blockers, and technical decisions to stakeholders.
- Coach engineers, establish clear expectations, and promote accountability and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of engineering or technical delivery leadership experience.
- Experience leading Agile or Scrum-based engineering teams.
- Experience owning production support, incident management, and KTLO responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills across executive and technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and create accountability across engineering teams while maintaining strong technical credibility.
- Experience applying AI-enabled development practices within software engineering workflows.
- Practical experience with C# /.NET technologies including ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, SignalR, and Minimal APIs.
- Practical experience with Python frameworks and libraries such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
- Experience with microservices, Docker, and event-driven architectures using Azure Service Bus or RabbitMQ.
- Working knowledge of modern JavaScript/React frameworks sufficient to understand, review, and guide frontend development.
- Experience working in Azure environments, with familiarity with services such as Logic Apps, Functions, Cognitive Services, OpenAI Service, Data Factory, and Application Insights.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, YAML-based CI/CD pipelines, and Git workflow management.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Enterprise SaaS products and production support ownership.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Experience supporting complex enterprise product or engineering environments.
